Bocanegra helps Saint-Étienne to first league win since Sept.

Saint Etienne used goals from Laurent Batlles and Bakary
Sako on both sides of halftime to earn a 2-0 victory at Monaco on Sunday.

U.S. captain Carlos
Bocanegra
started the match, going the full 90 for les Verts. The former Fire defender provided some controversy in
the first half when it appeared he handled the ball in his own penalty area,
but the official ignored Monaco’s calls for a penalty.

The result snaps the club’s 10-match league winless streak
dating back to a 1-0 victory over Olympique Lyon on September 25.

The result extends Saint Etienne’s unbeaten streak to five
matches and moves the club to 6-4-7 on the campaign and 7th in La
Championnat (25 points).

The club will host Ligue 1 bottom dwellers Arles on
Saturday.

Bakary Soumare
went 90 minutes in U.S. Boulogne’s 2-0 loss at 17th place Metz in
Ligue 2 action on Tuesday.  The
result takes Boulogne to 4-3-10 (22 points) and drops the side to 11th
place.

Soumare was not in the 18 for the club’s 1-0 early round
Coupe de France win over fifth division side Roye on Saturday.

Boulogne and Soumare will return
to Ligue 2 action when they visit 7th place Châteauroux on
Friday.

Botswanan international Dipsy
Selolwane
and South African Premier League club SuperSport United fell 2-0
to Platinum Stars on Saturday.

Down 2-0 at the half, the former Fire striker entered to
start the second interval but couldn’t help United break through.

The result drops SuperSport to 3-4-3 (12 points) and 12th
in the 16-team South African table.

Selolwane and United will visit 5th place Golden
Arrows this Saturday.
