John's free kick nominated for Goal of the Week

Chicago Fire forward Collins John earned his first AT&T MLS Goal of the Week nomination after scoring his third goal of the 2010 season in the Fire’s 1-1 tie against LA Galaxy at TOYOTA PARK.

In the 88th minute, John – who had come on for midfielder Patrick Nyarko in the 82nd – curled a 19-yard free kick from the left side of the field around the Galaxy wall and into the back of the net, beating goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to give the Fire the 1-0 lead.

The Chicago Fire (6-7-7, 25 points) sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and loom on the outside-looking-in for a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs when they host north of the border playoff competitor Toronto FC (7-9-6, 27 points) at TOYOTA PARK on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 PM CT (My50).
