Starting this September, all Chicago Fire Rec Soccer (CFRS) coed and men’s leagues will be played at the brand new, state-of-the-art Chicago Fire Soccer Center. Located on the north-side, a couple miles west of Wrigley Field, the Center will feature two full-sized turf fields, plenty of parking, and several nearby public transportation options. CFRS can’t wait to share their new dream-home with Fire fans from across Chicagoland.

The Soccer Center will stay open all year; in the winter an inflatable dome will turn the fields into a five-field indoor facility. CFRS will run coed and men’s leagues 6 days a week, year-round. Click on the links below to get more info about CFRS leagues kicking off this September:

Mondays - All COED
Tuesdays - All MEN’S
Wednesdays - COED and MEN’S
Thursdays - COED and MEN’S
Saturdays - COED and MEN’S
Sundays - COED and MEN’S

The future is bright! CFRS is looking forward to transitioning all of their leagues to the new facility and very much want you to be part of that move. Register for an upcoming league and tell your friends – adult rec soccer has a new Chicago home.

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club welcomed community partner, City Year Chicago at Sunday’s home opener against the New York Red Bulls. City Year, an education-focused non-profit organization that combats the nation’s dropout epidemic by uniting young people of all backgrounds for a full year of full-time service in high-need schools. Because of the Fire’s support and the support of all of our team sponsors, City Year Chicago is able to place 206 corps members in 20 schools, impacting 5,000 5th through 9th grade students through academic supports, mentoring programs, after school activities and parent engagement initiatives.

As the partnership continues in 2014, the Club extended an invitation to all 200 members of City Year Chicago to attend the Fire’s first home game at Toyota Park. Those who were able to attend joined Fire owner Andrew Hauptman on the field prior to the match for photo op and recognition.

The Club will also have presence at City Year’s Family Engagement Night Tuesday evening as members of the Chicago Fire Foundation and Community Relations Department will be in attendance.

The Chicago Fire is proud to show its ongoing support for the Greater Chicago Food Depository by participating in the organization’s Social Donation Plate campaign. The objective of the campaign is to help raise awareness and collect funds for hunger relief this holiday season.

The campaign features special, customized social donation plates from prominent Chicago figures, institutions and teams. Supporters of the cause will be asked to virtually “sign” their favorite plate and make a modest donation. Once a donation is made, the user experience allows individuals to “pass the plate” to friends via social media.

In support of hunger relief, the Fire has created a social donation plate for fans and supporters to virtually sign and pass along within the community.

“We’re happy to continue our partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and assist them in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for hunger relief,” said Chicago Fire Senior Director of Community Relations Jessica Yavitz. “I think the social donation plate campaign is a great way for our fans to engage in the cause, as well. We’re thrilled to help promote this unique project and collaborate to end hunger in our community.”

It comes as little surprise, just a day after being named one of three finalists for the MLS Most Valuable Player award, gathered another important accolade Thursday as he was vote Section 8 Chicago’s Supporters Player of the Year.

The award comes on the heels of Magee already taking the Club’s Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot award just prior to the end of the 2013 regular season.

Mike will be on hand Saturday at A.J. Hudson’s Public House (3801 N. Ashland) to receive his award and check for $1,500 to donate to the charity of his choice. The event begins at 6pm CT with the ceremony taking place at halftime of the MLS Eastern Conference Final Leg 2 between Sporting KC and Houston Dynamo.

See you there!

On Friday, December 6, we'll all gather at Fado's for the club's "Bracket Brunch" with great hopes and prizes on the line for the FIFA World Cup draw.

There's plenty to get you started on your "Drawology" now, with the below graphic representing the suspected four pots that FIFA representatives (or perhaps Brazilian celebrities) will use to determine the eight groups for the tournament.

What you should know…

  • It should be noted that the only confirmed pot are the seeded teams in Pot #1, which features the hosts Brazil and the next seven best teams according to October’s FIFA Ranking.

  • For the second straight World Cup, FIFA has somewhat controversially gone by October’s FIFA rankings to determine seeds, rather than the previous formula which factored in both FIFA rankings along with nation’s finishes at the previous two or three tournaments.

  • The change wasn’t felt quite as heavily for the 2010 World Cup as traditional powers like Italy, The Netherlands and England all remained seeds. Those countries have been upended this time around in Pot #1 by the likes of Switzerland, Colombia and Belgium.

  • The mix of CONCACAF/AFC (Pot #2) seems likely as both confederations have four teams each to make a round group of eight.
  • The only real question seems to be around which European team would join the mixed CAF (5 teams)/CONMEBOL (2 teams) in Pot #3 . If FIFA continues to go by their ranking procedure, France would be the lowest ranking European team, which could very well push them into the mixed pot, though this is unconfirmed and might not be known until the week of the draw.

  • Draw Makeup: Only nations from UEFA can be grouped with each other but only two per group and you obviously can’t be draw against countries in your own pot, so U.S. dreams of getting another crack at Iran (wither 1998) will have to wait.

  • DOWNLOAD our tournament bracket (PDF) and begin conducting your mock draws now! The Fire's "Bracket Brunch" is just two weeks away!

So there it is… On what we know (and suspect), what’s the best case scenario for your nation of interest? What's the worst?

SPOILER ALERT! It's time again to respond to tweets that were sent to the @chicagofire twitter account during last night's episode of @NBCChicagoFire!

His name is Steven... Not Taylor.

WAIT...NO... When did this happen?!?

I like camping in tents too!

Our mascot is Sparky, you're thinking of the Bulls mascot.

I can't think of a sarcastic response for this one, so here's a GIF of resident ninja, Austin Berry
